Who is Sabih Khan? Apple’s New COO with Strong Roots in Uttar Pradesh

Apple’s New COO

Lucknow/Moradabad: Global tech giant Apple’s New COO  Sabih Khan has been appointed, marking a significant leadership transition as veteran executive Jeff Williams prepares to retire later this year. With over three decades at Apple, Khan’s elevation comes as recognition of his long-standing contributions to the company’s global operations.

What makes the announcement more special for India is Khan’s deep connection to Uttar Pradesh. Born in 1966 in Moradabad, Sabih Khan spent his early childhood and received his initial education in the city. He later moved to Singapore with his family and eventually settled in the United States, where he built his illustrious career.

Khan holds degrees in Economics and Mechanical Engineering from Tufts University, and a Master’s in Mechanical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). Before joining Apple in 1995, he worked as an engineer at GE Plastics.

At Apple, Khan has been instrumental in strengthening the supply chain and leading innovations in manufacturing and sustainability. Known for his precision and strategic mindset, he helped streamline Apple’s complex global production systems, ensuring timely and efficient delivery of products worldwide.

Apple CEO Tim Cook praised Khan as a “brilliant strategist” and the “mastermind of Apple’s supply chain.” Cook emphasized that Khan played a crucial role in delivering Apple products across the globe, innovating manufacturing techniques, increasing domestic production in the U.S., and most notably, reducing Apple’s carbon footprint by 60%.

“Sabih’s commitment to excellence and sustainability has transformed the way we build and deliver our products,” said Cook. “He not only drove operational excellence but also championed eco-friendly practices across the board.”

As Khan steps into his new role by the end of this month, Jeff Williams will continue to oversee the design team and Apple Watch operations until his retirement. Following Williams’ departure, the design team will report directly to Tim Cook, signaling a slight organizational shift at the top.

The appointment of Sabih Khan not only signifies Apple’s faith in long-serving leadership but also marks a proud moment for Uttar Pradesh and India, as another person of Indian origin ascends to a top position in one of the world’s most influential tech companies.
